OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development). On their waste-related page, you can find information on, for example, waste prevention and transboundary movements of waste.

UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme). In their Division of Technology, Industry and Economics, under waste you can find information on Environmentally Sound Technologies (ESTs) for the management of cities and freshwater resources to developing countries and countries with economies in transition. In their Production and Consumption Unit under waste management, information is available on, for example, hazardous waste management and recycling. On UNEP’s Geo Data Portal you can find much information on waste from various sources (use Waste as search word).

FAO (the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations). If you search for “waste” on the front page, you will find a lot of useful information on waste and pollution prevention in the agricultural and fisheries sectors.

The World Bank. The World Bank’s Urban Waste Management Thematic Group formulates strategic approaches for integrated municipal solid waste management projects to increase coverage, especially for the urban poor, and provide safe disposal. Under

Topics in Development you can search for e.g. Urban Development, Sustainable Development, Infrastructure etc.

The Secretariat of the Basel Convention (Basel Convention on the control of transboundary movements of hazardous wastes and their disposal). Here you can find the text of the Convention, latest news and minutes etc.

The Stockholm Convention on persistent organic pollutants (POPs). This site contains information on meetings, background, implementation and guidance.

Imercsa ( India Musokotwane Environment Resource Centre for class Southern Africa). E.g. regional state of the environment reports, thematic updates and other books and publications, including a guide to environmental indicators and SoE reporting. 

ISWA (International Solid Waste Association). ISWA is a global professional network in the field of waste management. Their goal is to help implement eco-efficient and sustainable waste management systems, especially developing countries and economies in transition need our support in this field. Their website contains useful guidelines, statements and other useful technical information.

European IPPC Bureau (Integrated pollution prevention and control). Produces BAT reference documents (BREFs) which EU Member States are required to take into account when determining best available techniques generally or in specific cases. All BREFs and drafts can be found on this website.

European Topic Centre on Waste and Material Flows is the European portal to information on waste and material flows. On this site you will find the best available information on waste and material flows in

US EPA (United States Environmental Protection Agency). Their waste site contains much useful information, tips and guidelines at a very detailed level.

Canada’s Environmental Protection Agency also has a very useful website with rules, regulations and other information that may be an inspiration to you.

Waste Centre Denmark is the Danish portal to waste information. Here you can find, for example, the Danish strategy Waste 21, statistics etc.
