The Waste Management Unit (WMU) is a semi-autonomous, professional and multi-disciplinary team of experts responsible for waste management in the city of Lusaka. WMU was established by Council Resolution in November 2003.

Mission statement
To ensure delivery of efficient and cost-effective waste management services through strategic planning, mobilization of the private sector, communities and stakeholders and maximum use of own technical, human and financial resources.
